Muay Thai — the art of eight limbs — looks fierce from the outside. Fists, elbows, knees and shins, all in play. But step into a beginner class at Relentless Striking Academy in Milperra and you'll find something different: a welcoming, structured, genuinely fun environment where first-timers are the norm, not the exception.
How a beginner class flows
Most sessions start with a warm-up to get your body moving and your heart rate up — skipping, shadow work and mobility. From there, your coach breaks down technique: how to throw a proper teep (push kick), a roundhouse, or a clean elbow, one piece at a time. You'll drill these with a partner on the pads, building rhythm and timing.
You set the intensity. There's no pressure to go hard, and absolutely no sparring on your first day. The focus is on learning to move well — power comes later.
What to bring
Comfortable workout clothes, a water bottle and a towel will get you through your first class. We can sort you out with gloves to start, so there's no need to invest in gear before you know you're hooked. Hand wraps and shin guards come later as you progress.
You'll be sore — in a good way
Muay Thai works muscles you didn't know you had. Expect to feel it the next day, especially in your legs and core. That's the conditioning working. Within a few weeks your fitness, flexibility and coordination climb noticeably, and the movements that felt awkward on day one start to feel natural.
More than a workout
Like everything at the academy, the striking program is built on community. You'll train alongside people of every level and background, all pushing each other to improve. It's one of the best ways we know to build confidence, blow off stress, and get seriously fit at the same time.
